A lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender "look" at the Ballroom Community through a multi-cultural, inter-generational and artistic lens. It serves as an artistic community empowerment project sending strong HIV/AIDS awareness messages through screenings, lectures, politicians, AIDS & community based organizations and the media.

TOILET TRAINING

A film by Tara Mateik and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project. The video addresses the persistent discrimination, harassment, and violence that people who transgress gender norms face in gender segregated bathrooms. It is a race, age, ability and gender diverse video, which is a great activist tool and an excellent classroom resource appropriate for undergraduate and graduate classes in Women's Studies, Gender Studies, LGBT Studies, Disability Studies, Law, Social Work and Education.

THE BRANDON TEENA STORY

This is a documentary focuses on the last few weeks of Brandon Teena's life. He was 20 years old and lived in a small Midwestern town (Falls City, Nebraska). It contains news footage and interviews with Brandon's family, friends, former girlfriends, as well as the two men who are in jail (one on death row) for the rape and later murder of Brandon, and that of a young mother and another man with whom he had sought refuge miles away. This true story, which was the basis for the feature film Boys Don't Cry, is recounted in this award-winning (Best Documentary at both the Vancouver and Berlin film festivals) documentary.

Since it's debut on YouTube in January of 2007, the film has been consistently given a 5-star rating and universally praised for its message of acceptance and support for trans and gender non-conforming children and youth.  Viewed more than 300,000 times and translated into Portuguese, Out Of The Shadows has become a valuable tool for families, educators and others working to raise awareness about the needs and challenges faced by these amazing children and youth.
